This calculator estimates the electricity cost to run your pool pump using your own power draw, runtime, and electric rate. The math is straightforward: kWh per day = (pump watts ÷ 1000) × hours run per day. Cost per day = kWh per day × your rate per kWh. From there, cost per month = cost per day × days per month (default 30) and cost per year = cost per day × 365. If you only know the pump's horsepower, the helper converts it with watts = HP × 746 ÷ efficiency (default 85%). Finally, it estimates how much a variable-speed pump could save you — about 65% of your current yearly running cost.

Use watts = HP × 746 ÷ motor efficiency. A 1 HP motor at 85% efficiency draws about 878 watts. Always prefer the nameplate watts or amps × volts if you have them — HP is the output rating, not the electricity the motor pulls.
