For a typical setup ($0.18/kWh, 3.5 mi/kWh, ~88% efficiency, ~1,125 mi/month) home charging runs roughly $65/month, or about $789/year. Your rate matters most — $0.30/kWh nearly doubles it, while off-peak EV rates near $0.10/kWh cut it sharply. Enter your own numbers for a personal figure.
It's the share of wall energy that reaches the battery. Level 2 home charging loses ~6–15% (so ~85–94% efficient). Because mi/kWh is measured at the battery but you pay at the wall, leaving it out under-estimates cost by ~10–15%. Default here is 88%.
They're inverses. mi/kWh = 100 ÷ (kWh per 100 mi), so 28 kWh/100mi = 3.6 mi/kWh. For Wh/mi: mi/kWh = 1000 ÷ (Wh per mi), so 250 Wh/mi = 4.0 mi/kWh. Most mainstream EVs are 2.5–4.5 mi/kWh.
