Worked example

Say you draw a signature that ends up occupying a 290 × 70 px bounding box of ink. With a trim padding of 8 px and an export scale of 2×, the math is: padded size = (290 + 2×8) × (70 + 2×8) = 306 × 86, then ×2 → 612 × 172 px. Placed at 300 DPI that prints at about 612 / 300 = ~2.04 inches wide. PNGs are dimensionless until placed, so this is just a guide — the physical size depends entirely on how big you drag it in the target document.

Draw vs. Type — and the two creation paths

Draw records freehand strokes on a HiDPI canvas with a velocity-based variable-width pen, so the line thins out as you move faster — closer to a real pen. Type renders your name in a bundled handwriting font (no font CDN call at export time). Everything downstream is identical: the alpha bounding box is scanned, the image is auto-cropped, padding is added, and it is exported at your chosen scale. Both stay 100% client-side.

Why transparent PNG, and when to use White or JPG

A transparent PNG is the headline output because it drops cleanly onto any background — the signature line, the printed text, a colored letterhead all show through. Choose White background only when your target rejects alpha (a few older Office or PDF viewers flatten transparency to white). JPG cannot store transparency at all: if you pick JPG the tool forces a solid background and tells you, because otherwise the alpha would render as a black or white box and the sharp ink edges would pick up compression artifacts. For an infinitely scalable, DPI-free result, use SVG (Draw mode only).

Accuracy & honesty notes

This is a signature image, not a cryptographic digital signature. It carries no identity verification, audit trail, tamper-evidence or timestamp. Do not market or treat it as a "digital signature" (which specifically means a PKI / encryption-based signature).
