What it does

Pour cost is the bar's version of food cost — the metric that tells you whether each drink is priced to make money. Enter the bottle price, bottle size, and pour size and this calculator gives you the cost per pour, the pour cost % at your drink price, the gross profit per drink, and — from your target pour cost % — the suggested drink price. A color gauge shows where you land against the 18–24% bar target.

How to use it

  1. Enter the bottle price and pick the bottle size (or enter ounces).
  2. Set the pour size (tap a preset: 1.5 oz shot, 2 oz double, 5 oz wine).
  3. Enter your drink price to see the pour cost % and profit.
  4. Set a target pour cost % to get the suggested price to charge.

How the math works

  1. Cost per pour = bottle price ÷ bottle ounces × pour ounces.
  2. Pour cost % = cost per pour ÷ drink price × 100.
  3. Gross profit / drink = drink price − cost per pour.
  4. Suggested price = cost per pour ÷ (target pour cost % ÷ 100).
  5. Pours per bottle = bottle ounces ÷ pour ounces.
